MACMILLAN GIVEAWAY! (...also my first official JRT giveaway)

In support of Macmillan authors whose books are, at this time, still unavailable to purchase directly from Amazon, I'm hosting a GIVEAWAY for a Tor title! (Tor is an imprint of Macmillan)

The book?

John Scalzi's Zoe's Tale. (not purchased from Amazon, in case you were wondering)

The format?

Mass market paperback.

Eligible countries?

U.S. & Canada (a possible second prize will be open to international readers)

I wish I could afford to make it an international contest* (see below for possible international participation) or give out a bundle of Macmillan titles, but it's going to cost me half what I paid for this book just to ship it out to the winner (postage & packaging).

Here are the rules:

Mandatory (3 things you absolutely must do):

1.  You must follow JRT publicly.  If I can't see your photo/blank avatar on the sidebar expansion, it doesn't count. If you read JRT through RSS, that's fine, but it won't count for this contest.

New follower: +1 extra entry
Old follower: +2 extra entries

2.  You must comment on this post telling me your favorite Macmillan title!  Here is a listing of all Macmillan imprints so you can check to see if your favorite book matches. :)

3.  Leave an e-mail address so I can contact you if you win.  People have not been following this rule. Please, please: if you want to enter, this is one of the 3 things you absolutely must do. You will not be entered if you do not leave an e-mail address.

Optional (for extra entries):

Comment telling me which of the following you are doing. If you don't tell me, I'm not counting anything other than what you tell me in your comment.

4.  Tweet this contest and get +1 extra entry. DO NOT USE THE NEW RETWEET FEATURE on Twitter's main page.  That links back to *my* tweet and I need to see it on YOUR page to count.  Give me a link to your tweet. This only works with public Twitter entries, otherwise, unfortunately, I won't be able to see your link and cannot count that entry.

5.  Blog about this contest and get +2 extra entries. Provide the link to your entry.

6.  Put a link to this contest on your blog page (not an entry): +2 extra entries.  Provide a link so I can see where it is on your blog.

7.  Link to this contest anywhere else: +1 extra entry for each link (does not count if multiple links are provided in the same location, like a forum). Provide separate links so I can check them.

All links will be checked at the end of the contest, so don't take them down!

Contest will run from today (February 2, 2010) through Midnight PST March 11, 2010.

If by a miracle, Jawas Read, Too! reaches 50 followers (at the time of posting this, I am at 14), I'll reach deep into my pockets of unemployment and consider adding another mass market Macmillan title to the prize.  If this happens, the second prize *will be open internationally (to countries The Book Depository ships to).

Good luck to the participants and please support Macmillan authors!

This contest is now closed.

Have you had a contest here at JRT or is the first? :)

1. Old follower: +2 extra entries
2. My favorite Macmillian title is definitely Mistborn by Brandon Sanderson. Of course, I'm incredibly partial to all things Tor...
3. I did the auto-RT thing that Twitter has installed even before I knew about this benefit! http://twitter.com/brownjawa/status/8560080336
4. I will next Monday , of course. :)

@TJ: You're right, this is the first official JRT only giveaway! I've edited the title to reflect that. :)

Also, your Twitter link is to my status update, not one that you tweeted yourself. You might want to fix that.. ;)

Thanks for entering!

Enter me! Enter me, your faithful pal, Min!

1. I just added JRT to my blogspot Follow list.

2. Does this include Roc Fantasy? Because I am all over Rob Thurman's Cal Leandros seris--"Nightlife", "Moonshine", "Madhouse", "Deathwish" and the soon to be released "Roadkill".

If not, I'm thoroughly enjoying Mark del Franco's Connor Grey series. I've read the first three--"Unshapely Things", "Unquiet Dreams", "Unfallen Dead"--and I'm waiting for "Unperfect Souls", which comes out soon.

3. Alas, I do not tweet.

4. I've blogged about it on LJ and blogspot.

Email me at phantom_minuet@yahoo.com.

@TJ: I've gone and seen the actual RT on your Twitter page, thanks! That new RT feature redirects any links of the RT so it appears funny (i.e. not from the RTer). Sorry about that! I'll clarify that in the post. :)

@PhantomMinuet: Of course! Thank you so much! Roc is an imprint of Penguin USA, not Macmillan; Ace is also a Penguin imprint, but you made such an effort thinking of a title, you're entered anyway. :)

Well, then, congratulations on your first official giveaway! I think you chose a great theme for it, too! :)

I retweeted it old-school, just so it's easier for you: http://twitter.com/bookloveaffair/status/8578377230 -- I've been using the new RT system, but I'm not sure how I feel about it quite yet. It is easier for me at times, though, especially when I'm on the go at school.

New Follower: +1 (I've been coming here somewhat regularly due to Retweets and such I've seen on twitter, but have neglected to actually click the follow button until now!)

My favorite Macmillan would have to be the Wheel of Time series (Tor)- Please do not ask me to pick a favorite out of the series!!

Thanks a bunch!

The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes. (I think that's about the only Macmillan book I've ever read, to be honest).

Erika said...

@TJ: Oh, you didn't have to redo it, but thank you! The new RT system is interesting, but it's confusing. I don't use the Twitter main page--I use a Firefox widget which has its own RT feature. I like that one much better. :)

@Loni: I would never dream of having you pick a favorite--that's one massive series! Thank you for entering. :)

@Red Haired Celt: Thanks for sharing, but are you actually entering the contest? You need to provide an e-mail address and tell me if you are a new or old follower. Otherwise, as of right now, you are not entered to win.

I'm not entering this one, because I already own and have read the book, but for future giveaways, how do I officially follow this blog if I'm not on blogspot, but on LJ and Facebook only?

Erika said...

@calico-reaction: That's not a problem! :)

On the left sidebar, underneath my Goodreads widget is a "Follower" widget for the site. I'm not sure if you can do this without a Google account since every time I click "follow" my info is filled in automatically, but if you do have one, you click that follow button and it will ask if you want to follow publicly or privately.

I ask that readers follow me publicly because "following" is the way I choose to visibly keep track of my readership. As far as I'm concerned, there are 23 people who read this blog regularly, albeit you would never be able to tell from the amount of comments I get. ;)

If you have problems, let me know and I will try to find a way to work around this. :)

I am a new Follower.
Found you via the link on Book Love Affair.

I can't select a favorite but most of my books from Macmillan are from TOR. (Some of them are UK published so they are Orbit).

Examples :

Orson Scott Card (enders)
Cecilia Dart Thornton (Bitterbyde trilogy)
Steven Erikson (Malazan)
Peter Hamilton
Robert Jordan (Wheel of Time)
China Mieville

Hope you get up to 50 followers as I am an International entry.

At the moment my favorite McMillian title is The Domino Pattern my Timothy Zahn. I also tweeted about this giveaway, but can't figure out how to give you a specific status update link. I favorited it instead, here's that link: http://twitter.com/greytfriend/favorites
Plus I'm a new follower as well. Is that 3 entries?

Erika said...

@Greytfriend: As soon as you provide an e-mail address you will be entered to win. As of right now, you are not.

Once you do that, you have 2 extra entries for a total of 3. :)

Thanks for the tip, Erika! I should now be showing up! :) Of course, I'm still not entering, but at least I have a snowball's chance for the next one! :)

Erika said...

@calico-reaction: You are absolutely showing up, thank you so much! :)
