Winners & New Giveaway!

I want to thank everyone who entered JRT's first giveaway.  I learned some things that will hopefully make the next contest easier on you as well as myself.  With all of the new followers the contest attracted, I'm a little sad to say JRT didn't quite make it to 50; the contest will not have an international winner.

There is a winner, though!  I counted all of everyone's valid entries and picked one winner at random.

The winner of JRT's first giveaway is...

Congratulations!  You've won a mass market edition of Zoe's Tale.  An e-mail will be sent to the address you provided.  Coincidentally, TJ had the highest number of entries.  Be happy Random.org appreciates your determination, TJ! :)

If the winner does not respond in 3 days (by Monday), I will pick another from the elegible entries.

Speaking of contests, here is the second part of this post:

Do you like free books? Would you like an opportunity to win another one?

If you answered yes to both questions, you're in luck!  Thanks to Orbit Books, I have one extra copy of Gail Carriger's upcoming novel, Changeless, the sequel to Soulless and the second in her Parasol Protectorate series.

To enter: simply comment on this entry with your e-mail address telling me what your favorite scene from Soulless was.  You must confirm that you follow JRT publicly (i.e. show up on the Follower widget to the left) and live in the US to enter.

Remember: this contest is only up for a week (and an extra weekend)!  It will end Sunday, March 21st, 2010 at 11:59 p.m. PST.  The winner will be chosen at random and announced on Monday.

Good luck and spread the word!

This contest is now closed.

Thank you! And I was trying hard to win, because I need to devour this series. :3

I suppose that means I should sit out the Changeless giveaway. Good luck to everyone!

Erika said...

@TJ: Your efforts were worth it! I don't see why you should sit out on the contest--fair's fair and it's open for any US entries--even someone who just won my first contest. :) Enter anyway!

My favorite scene (ack. Spoiler potential) is when Alexia is tossed into cell with Lord Maccon. Their interactions while they try to figure out what to do and combat their distractions is preciously written.

@Doogie: You have to be a follower of JRT and live in the US to enter. Can you confirm if you are? If not, you will not be entered.

I would have to say when Alexia is first attacked by the vampire in the library and beats him off with her parasol and hairs sticks. I think the verbal exchange in the scene is very funny.

@Sarah: Thank you for entering!

I follow publicly RENEE MCD.

My favourite scene from Soulless was probably the scene with the family "confrontation" with the plate of dead chicken carcasses -- when they discover the "relationship" between Lord Maccon and Alexia. It was very humorous.

I hope I win!!!

Lily Child said...

Ek! I have not read Soulless yet! I plan too, just haven't got there yet! Can I still enter?

Also, congrats on TJ! :D

I'm partial to the extended scene in which Conall is naked, but that's just me. ;-)

Anonymous said...

Okay, I'll enter since you talked me into it. ;)

Carriger said that I'd probably like this second installment better than I did Soulless. I suppose I'll have to see if she's right one of these days.

Thanks again for Zoe's Tale. I'm really excited to start Scalzi's series now that I'll have a complete collection. He's just so classy and smart--gotta love Scalzi.

Ha, sorry, I was dwelling on the bad! And then I didn't even finish my thought. I'm so out of it lately (I blame the finals).

Honestly, the scene I liked best in Soulless was the opening scene in which she accidentally kills the vampire with her parasol. I have a list of scenes that really irritated me though, despite the fact that I really liked the quirky protagonist and whatnot. Like I was saying before, I've discussed this briefly with Carriger and she said that what bothered me--which was namely the very forced and silly romance--is already established for book #2 and won't be taking precedence. We shall see!

There were so many funny mini-scenes (the hats, the ride with the nerdy scientist), but my favorite is at the beginning when she kills the vampire with her parasol. She's so proper and indignant and fabulous.

@Lily Child: You've been such a great supporter of JRT, I shall make an exception and give you a different option for entering: what is one thing you look forward to, or hope you'll encounter, in either Soulless or Changeless? (please remember to provide an e-mail address :) )

@Everyone else: Thanks for entering!

Personally, I enjoyed the opening scene where she sneaks into the library for food, accidentally kills the vampire, and pretends to faint. I've never been so startled and laughed so much in just a few pages of a book.

I love the scene where Lord Maccon sees bruises on Alexia and is outraged. Then he finds out they were from him and he acts like a scolded dog. So funny!

I am a brand new follower. I love your blog!

Lily Child said...

Ok, well there are a lot of different things that I look forward to in Soulless. The icing on the cake for me is the various interactions between the various spectrum of paranormal creatures set in the Victorian area, which a touch of steam punk?! I am soooo there! :P I will try to read Soulless before the giveaway ends!

I'm following! I live in the US, and...

...my favorite scene from Soulless was probably the scene in the jail cell, when Alexia and Maccon were getting cozy. ;)

Following on Twitter and publicly via Google; I'm also a U.S. resident. I honestly love the opening scene - it gives a great sense of who Alexia is and is *so* humorous. Since I read the first chapter in Yen Plus Magazine, it was what got me to buy and read the entire book (and then pass it along to my sister to read!).

Awesome giveaway! I'd love to be entered. And I'm going to have to go with the chicken carcass scene as well. Love it. I'm a follower here (Angiegirl) and on twitter (@angiebookgirl) Thanks!

I loved Soulless and I'm really looking forward to Changeless. I liked the romance in the book. I liked the opening scene and the jail cell scene as well, but my favorite scene is when Alexia and Maccon are alone together getting cozy and her family walks in on them.

I'm a Google Friend Connect follower and live in the US.

Yan said...

My favorite scene has to be when Alexia fondled Macoon trying to understand the male anatomy ;P I believe that it was the scene when they were trapped in a cage. Okay so this isn't exactly a scene, but my favorite line was when Alexia discovers that 'it' goes back down in the epilogue LOL

I'm #56 on your GFC xD

Erin said...

A favorite scene, eh? And I can't just pick the whole durn book? Alright, then. I won't guarantee that it's my absolute favorite, but it was the most touching and left a lasting impression in my mind, however brief it was.

It is the very short scene, just before Alexia's wedding, when she wakes Lord Akeldama early in the evening and led him to the rooftop so he could view the sunset once again, as she promised she would when both they were imprisoned at the Hypocras Club in Chapter 10. I teared up right along with Akeldama!

@Barbara: Thank you for entering!

@Yan: Thank you for entering!

@Erin: Someone finally picked a scene with Lord Akeldama! Isn't he the sweetest? Thank you for entering. :)

My email address is ArcadiaWearsPrada@Yahoo.com and my favorite scene from Soulless was when Alexia was touring the lab.

Erin said...

Yes, yes! I knew as soon as I saw this that I would have to select a scene with Akeldama, Biffy, or Ivy. Not to detract from Maccon, Lyall or the rest of the host of amazing and lovable characters, but is, I believe, the first book I've read in which the secondary and tertiary characters were just as enjoyable as, if not more than, the primary characters!

At first I was very reserved about liking Akeldama, but by the end of the book he had so thoroughly won me over that I thought I owed him this honor! ;)

I've added this site to the things I follow (as mdyesowitch)and I live in the US.

@Doogie: Thank you for coming back to check. Now you're entered. :)

It was the opening scene that got me hooked and if I have to pick only one favorite. That would have to be it. Really how can you go wrong when it all starts with the accidental killing of a vampire.

@donnas: Are you a follower of JRT? If you are, could you let me know which person you are on the left-hand side "Followers" widget so I can verify? :) As soon as you do that, you will be entered!

My email address is temporaryworlds@gmail.com

I'm following you with my twitter address of watchnancytweet (the icon has a stack of books currently).

My favorite scene in the book was also the beginning where Alexia stakes the vampire. I also like her musings over her father's scandalous books :)

Hope this works this time!

Erika said...

@temporaryworlds: You are entered! Thank you and I'm glad it finally worked for you. :)

Looks like others agree with my favorite scene -- Alexia takes down the vampire! How often is a favorite scene the first one in the book? Tells you something about how entertaining the book is right from the start, doesn't it?

I'm in CA & can be contacted at talshannon@hotmail.com

I've never used the Google Follow thing before, but I think I'll give it a whirl now.~

I think my favorite scene in SOULLESS was at the beginning when Alexia was alone in the library with that vampire. She was looking for some food, and this is what happens, poor Alexia. That scene had me giggling and it stands out in my head.

And I already follow and am in the U.S.

Faith Adeline said...

My favorite part of Soulless? Definitely when Alexia brought Lord Akeldama to the rooftop to watch the sunrise. It was so touching. But I loved the whole book (:

My email is faithadeline@gmail.com, and the name I'm following under is FaithAdeline (: The icon is a lighthouse. And I do live in the US

Erika said...

@talshannon: You're right: a lot of people are picking that scene. It's a great one, though, so I fault no one. ;) Thank you for entering!

@Janicu: Thank you for entering. :)

@Faith Adeline: I think that's my favorite scene as well. It was such a sweet moment. Akeldama is my favorite character, though, so I think I'm a bit biased. :) Thank you for entering!

I love when Alexia and Maccon first appear together just after the vampire is dead. When he whispers to her the threat of something worse than smelling salts and she gives up the fake faint immediately. LOL!
